At this time, LOIs are not required.
Grant applications are due via the foundation’s online application portal by 11:59 p.m. on May 31 and 11:59 p.m. on October 31 of each calendar year. Applications received by the May deadline are reviewed by the directors at the end of July and applications received by the October deadline are reviewed at the end of January.
The foundation will communicate with you either by email or in writing by the end of August (for applications submitted by May 31) or the end of February (for applications submitted by October 31) with a decision.
In order to be considered, you must meet our basic requirements: the agency must be a public charity recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code and in good standing. The foundation will not consider funding individuals, government agencies, loans, political campaigns, endowments, or legislative lobbying efforts.
We only fund agencies that provide direct services to California residents.
Generally speaking, the foundation seeks to fund programs that will improve social conditions, promote human welfare, and/or alleviate pain and suffering. These can include individual and family services, educational programs, homeless assistance, veterans’ affairs, food banks, medical equipment and technology, technology resources, capital campaigns, etc.
Yes, we will consider capital campaigns.
The foundation prefers not to fund multi-year grants.
We do not have minimum and maximum grant award guidelines; rather, the foundation suggests that your ask be commensurate with the goals and outcomes outlined in your request.
You must submit comprehensive six-month and 12-month reports to the foundation office, including narratives, spreadsheets, budgets, receipts, photos, success/impact stories, etc. The foundation’s granting period is one (1) year; we will not consider projects that go beyond 12 months, so it is imperative that your project be successfully completed within the one-year mark. We will not consider changes to the scope of work outlined in your original application to the foundation.
No–previously funded organizations must wait a minimum of three (3) years to submit a new application, beginning from the date of the receipt of grant funds.
While the foundation directors and staff are happy to answer questions about the granting process, we must recuse ourselves from offering direct input as to your specific proposal.
